Walley and Jimmie Murphy's sister was my dads secretary in jefferson City Mo. I also played music with Ed Adkins for years, and were good friends.
ed could play anything, i watched him make steel's in his wood shop, and guitars with elaborate enlays. I played 30,000 country jobs after seeing Jimmie play with Dave Duddly in columbia 1972.

Great site! Interesting that the steel guitar is not often considered a jazz instrument considering it's prominence in western swing back in the 30s and 40s.
I have had the good fortune to see Dave Easley a number of times. He's just amazing.

loosely , jazz ,,,is jazz, no matter if you wear wranglers or tuxedo, or zoot suit, or band jackets. it is not a look, it is not a noise , it is probably varying ''feels'',,now here,,, now there,,, anticipating the next 'change'. the environ and instrumentation, be damned. loaded with calories or devoid thereof, simple I,IV,V. boiling to the brim with cliches, then not one to be found. but to most it is music. some pretty good,, some, not so pretty good....stay tuned kenny

I believe that Jazz and Bossa Nova can walk together. I love to hear Jazz playing with Pedal Steel Guitar, for me, there's nothing better than this. Thinking this way I decided to start a new project called "Steel In Bossa" . You guys can hear my first goal playing Wave (Tom Jobin) on E9th tuning. Go to www.myspace.com/adairtorres if you want, and, let me know what you guys think about it. Thanks..AT.

You got me there Jim... the words of Mother Theresa spring to mind .....People are unreasonable, illogical and self centered.. Love them anyway. When you do good, they will accuse you of egoism and ulterior motives.. Do good anyway....Sincerity and openness make you vulnerable...be sincere and open anyway...What you have built up over the tears can be destroyed...build anyway...People mat attack you if you help them...help them anyway

Great site Jim!!! Long overdue and so very welcome. I've felt for a long time that steel guitar is among the very best musical instruments for playing jazz. Surely some of the very best, most hard swinging, most emotionally expressive jazz I've ever heard was done on this amazing instrument.
Great work!

Great site. 'Bout time that folks recognized what a versatile, flexible instrument the psg really is. We old folks, know what it was really like when greats such as the Wolf, Al Marcus, Alvino were cutting it up with other than 'country'. Even though Western Swing was where I was brought up, I've always appreciated other styles music and starting with Reece Anderson, I personally have seen the instrument used in several venues of the craft.
